Foundations of the Modern World - Final Inquiry Unit: Select a Topic

A guide to help you through the process of selecting a topic for inquiry, exploring, asking good questions, and discovering your answers for your Personalized Research Project

How to Choose a Topic for Inquiry and Research

Selecting a topic for your inquiry is the first step, and it's an important one! You will be spending a good amount of time reading and thinking about this topic, so it needs to be something that interests you.

Questions to consider in topic selection:

  • What am I interested in?
  • What are the parameters set by my teacher?
  • What do I wish we could study in Foundations of the Modern World?
  • If I were a teacher designing this course, what would I want the class to learn about?

(Especially if history is not one of your favorite subjects):

What interests me more broadly, that I could explore through a historical lens for the purposes of this inquiry?
